Turfing & Growing-In
With help from PLLS, most lawns can be retrieved, revitalised and with a continued and structured approach become a sustainable lawn to love and be proud of. In some cases, new and old, the soil below may be very poor, highly compacted, suffer from drainage issues, be invaded by pest infestation, or the thatch layer has developed such a density, it suffocates and starves the soil and plant of its vital reserves. The result being predominantly weed filled, sparse grass growth and moss occupied lawns.
In these cases, or for those who require an instant new lawn or a professionally grown-in lawn from seed, we will always talk through the options and best-case scenarios, whilst managing customer expectations and respecting their budgets.
Once the decision has been made, we will complete a full site assessment, including measurements, access availability, machinery requirements and material disposal calculations. A detailed schedule of works, timings and costings is then produced and emailed to the customer.
We will only carry out these works when conditions are suitable and optimum results are likely.

Procedures for Turfing vs Growing-In
The clearance and substructure of both transformations is very similar. In many cases we will kill off the existing lawn a few weeks prior to works, to minimise contamination from any weed seeds potentially inhabiting the newly prepared growing media.
For purely organic gardens, we will not use this option. Existing turf and/or soil is stripped and cleared using specialist machinery, with new certified soil brought in, consolidated and levelled.
Premier-Turf (cut the day prior to delivery) is laid in a striped format, once soil levels are stable and lightly raked. Cutting-in the turf to current or installed border edging, followed by a finishing roll and a good soaking. As turf is grown using predominantly inorganic fertilisers, the Premier-Gro option with an Organic-based Treatment Program is certainly the best option for the purist Organic Gardener.
Premier-Gro requires a very loose seedbed to drill-in a predominantly Rye Grass seed blend, passing several directions to maximise coverage. For smaller to mid-sized lawns, where possible we will use specialist germination sheets to speed-up and protect new growth. We also offer custom-made bird scarers for those without cats!
